A self-confessed perfectionist in all areas of his life, Manhal Allos is passionate about achieving success through technical excellence. Manhal founded Sollatek in 1983 and the company now has offices in 14 countries and an active distribution network in 24 more. The first products were made in a garage belonging to a colleague who became Sollatek’s Production Manager. Those early voltage protection devices were designed specifically for use in regions with unreliable mains power supplies, such as countries in Africa and the Caribbean. Sollatek’s rapid growth was made possible by Manhal’s distinctive vision: firstly, to develop products for countries whose needs had been ignored by the bigger electronics manufacturers, and secondly, to deliver excellent after-sales service.

Having decided in 1985 that the only way to expand the market for Sollatek’s voltage protection products was to visit customers himself, Manhal began making extensive trips to Africa, establishing franchises and signing up agents. Earning the trust of customers by delivering competitively-priced products backed by local service support proved crucial to the company’s growth, while an understanding of customers’ needs led to ideas for a stream of new products which were added to the Sollatek range.

Turning to the UK market and the increasingly urgent need for companies to make energy savings, Sollatek assessed the voltage optimisation products available and found that none matched the functionality of Sollatek’s intelligent technology. Having identified a substantial opportunity and carried out in-depth market analysis, iVolt was launched with the expectation of quickly becoming a major player in the field of voltage optimisation.

The iVolt™ is unique in constantly assessing and delivering optimum energy savings – at least 30% more than fixed reduction voltage products. With a fully solid state design and therefore no mechanical parts, the iVolt™ provides faster voltage correction and requires no annual maintenance. Perhaps the most outstanding customer benefit is data on actual energy savings on a day-by-day basis – the most sought-after feature in the voltage optimisation industry because of the requirement for an accurate analysis of return on investment.

Manhal’s aim is for iVolt to deliver the very best solutions, setting the trend that competitors will follow. Future developments include increasing the margin by which the iVolt™ outperforms fixed reduction units, and further integration of the iVolt™ with other energy-saving systems within a building. Since Sollatek is already a world leader in renewable energy, the company is ideally positioned to take advantage of such opportunities. An iVolt™ for domestic use is also under consideration.
